We will prepare your federal and state income tax returns based on the information and documents you provide. We will rely in good faith upon the information you provide without verification unless the information appears to be incomplete, inconsistent or incorrect, in which case we may ask for additional information or clarification. We will use professional judgment in resolving issues when the tax law is unclear or when there is a conflict among taxing authorities.
It is your responsibility to provide all the information required for the preparation of complete and accurate returns. You should retain all the documents, cancelled checks, record of expenses, logs to substantiate mileage and business purpose for any travel, meals, entertainment, and other data that form the basis of income and deductions. Self-employed taxpayers should document all income, cost of goods sold, and expenses. All records utilized to prepare this return should be kept for at least four years. These documents may be necessary to prove the accuracy and completeness of the returns to a taxing authority. You have the final responsibility for the income tax returns and, therefore, you should review them carefully before you sign them.
Under both federal and California law (and other states) we are required to electronically file your returns. However, you may opt out. We will provide the opt-out forms you must sign and send with your returns.
Everyone must have health insurance and everyone required to file a tax return must report their health insurance. You will need to provide proof of your insurance for all family members. Form 1095 should be provided in most instances.
You are responsible for reporting foreign activities. By signing this letter, you acknowledge that you will inform us if you have income from foreign sources or if you have signatory authority over any foreign account. If you are unsure whether income or an account is foreign, we will review it. Note that the penalties for failure to report foreign activities are severe.
Your returns may be selected for review by the taxing authorities. Any proposed adjustments by the examining agent are subject to certain rights of appeal. In the unlikely event that your return is audited, we will be available upon request to represent you, through our Place-An-Order platform.
We generally retain the final work product generated for our clients for seven years. After the retention period, the electronic files are destroyed. It is your responsibility to retain your records for possible future use, including possible examination by the taxing authorities.
